Textmate as the ultimate editor
With dozens of “bundles” that allow for application-specific editing, the Mac text editor TextMate is a great tool for the researcher. I posted four screenshots below for Stata, LaTeX, Matlab and PHP. The most powerful is PHP as there is a default bundle that lets you run the script directly from the file. With a little work (install TeX on your Mac), you can easily compile and view your LaTeX files. The quick command(e.g. “begin + “tab”) make editing a breeze. What I like most is the syntax highlighting that it brings to editing .m and .do files. Moreover, you can create “projects” that let you easily handle multiple files.

hi- I was doing a search trying to resolve a problem with making matlab bundle work for textmate while I ran into your post. My problem is that I could load the bundle successfully into textmate but for some reason the .m files do not get syntax highlights. My suspect is that .m has been treated as Objective-C source file rather than matlab source by the UTI system of Mac OS 10.4. So I am curious whether you had the same problem and how to work around this.
It would be great if you could drop me an email. Thanks.

Hi,
I’m also having a problem getting syntax highlighting for matlab in textmate. A solution to this would be much appreciated.
Cheers
